Install Ubuntu on Playstation 3
Ubuntu never stops sorpenderci. Is there a way to install it on a Playstation 3 and have it running on our console. This guide is dedicated to all lovers of Linux, and especially of our beloved distro Ubuntu, you can not do without.
Here are the steps to follow:
1 - Getting the software
From the link at the bottom of the page you need to download the Ubuntu iso image to create a soft and PS3 with your CD burning program. The version you download is a Ubuntu 7.10.
Scaricatevi also otheros.bld to put the file on a pen drive in a folder so structured / PS3/OTHEROS/otheros.bld. This is a tool that will allow us to start the installation of Ubuntu on our play.
2 - Prepare the PS3
Take a backup of all your data because you have to format a part of 'hard drive to put inside Ubuntu. To do so, follow these simple steps:
- Go to Settings -> System Settings -> Format Utility.
- Choose Custom -> Allocate 10 GB to another operating system.
- Scgliete Quick format and games.
To insert the CD and finish formatting the pendrive and previously prepared by System -> System Settings -> Install Other OS you run the installation system that is in the pen.
Press the "X" on the joypad to install the new boot loader KBoot, A notice will tell you to go to System Settings -> Default Systems and select the departure of the new system.
Another press of the "X" from this position, if all goes well, should start the installation from the CD.
3 - Installing Ubuntu
This CD has been created so that you do not give too much information to the installation, but during the installation, just you press Enter to all questions. The only attention is to use the part of the 'hard disk that you created earlier and formatting two partitions in this way:
- By selecting the method of Guided partitioning choose disk / dev/ps3da
- Format # 1 and # 2 with ext3 filesystem as SWAP.
Now give them your information, the network parameters and everything you need to customize your installation and start with the installation. At the end of the CD comes out alone and if you restart the console here from Ubuntu on your PS3.
